Tom Paulek and I discovered this colony on April 15 but were only able to view it from Warren Road, about half a mile away. We observed foraging flocks from this colony in fields of alfalfa on the north side of the Ramona Expressway and some birds were carrying insects (probably caterpillars) back to the colony. On Wed., April 20th, Tom and I obtained permission from the owner to investigate the colony. At that time, we determined that most birds were in the incubation stage. Relatively few were feeding chicks. It appears that this colony was established by two or more settlements.
