Counts of 60-65 males consistent. Birds leaving the colony in waves and commuting to vineyards to E about 300 yards. Birds returning without food in bill. Drop into cattails and about 2/3 disappear from sight. 96 is the maximum number of males and females that could be accounted for at one time. Total birds is probabably about 3 x 65 = 195.

Colony is in slightly different location than previous years. The cattails are battered down near the old location prehaps by high water. New cattail growth only about 12 inches, and the season seems delayed. Tricolors all in NW corner of the reservoir and not split on the E side as in some years previous - even though tall thatch of old cattails is present.

Sex ratio from counts of visible birds: 60mm : 15 ff. More females known to be out of sight deep in cattails.
