Colony in two parts this year with a new area about 20 m. away across water. Males chorusing in these limited areas, then commuting out to pasture to SW out of sight, returning in about 20 min. Most disappear deep into cattails. About 1/3 visible at any one time. After 10 minutes they all reurn to pasture. 16 is the maximum nubber of males that I could account for at any one time. I doubt that the total number of males is more than 25. Colony is rather quite, but males chorusing part of the time when present. However, a spot check might detect no birds even when present. Incubation is inferred.
Karen Havlena visited the site at about 11:00 and counted 16 males and 9 females.
I saw no females at all earlier.
