On August 15, 2019 the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service published a finding that listing the tricolored blackbird under the U.S. Endangered Species Act was not warranted.

The Service found that this was due to "high nesting success in both small and large colonies" and to existing regulatory mechanisms, including the California Endangered Species Act, that "are currently acting to ameliorate the severity of some existing threats."  The finding was published in the Federal Register and is available here.
